The Sock - Images During Construction

This shows the initial stage. The armature is made of chicken wire and stuffed with newspaper to provide the basic shape of the statue.

This picture illustrates how the images are traced onto the clay plinth.

The next stage of the process involves a plastic mould or 'jacket' being fitted around the clay.

The penultimate stage involves the 'Sock' being moulded in wax. This is the preliminary to the bronze which is very expensive. Because of this, the wax is used to identify any imperfections. In the final stage the 'Sock' is taken from the workshop to the foundry where the finished 'Sock' is cast in bronze.
