Thorpe Acre Trail

The Thorpe Acre Trail was created by local residents to celebrate the millennium. Whether you are interested in wildlife, arts, landscapes, or local history you'll find the route full of suprises.

You don't need to limit yourself: from Garendon Lane you can reach Shepshed by foot or by cycle. You can also take the monks' trail from ancient and Grace 2 listed Stonebow Bridge, to Dishley and Hathern.

Robert Bakewell, the historically recognised agricultural improver, lived and worked in this area.

Although Thorpe Acre is fairly urban it may suprise you to know how many different species of plants, animals, birds, insects and even fungi inhabit the area. Today geographical landmarks like Black Brook, Thorpe Hill and Garendon Park remain, but the energy and diversity of modern Thorpe Acre offers new things to celebrate, protect and discover.
