Post Box in Wall of Outbuildings 75m NNW of "Field Fares", Walton Lane (south side) - Grade II
10 Kingscote, Loughborough Road - Grade II
House, C16. Timber framing with plaster infill, close-studding with middle rail and some arch bracing to wall plate. A range of 5 bays, and 2 storeys. Central ridge stack to left on 1st floor and one blocked original wood mullioned window, other windows (2 per storey) are paired casements. Some brick blocking to centre of facade may represent position of original doorway, and therefore a lobby entrance plan type. Both gable ends have 2 3-light wood mullioned windows, and a 2-light window to attic. To the N. Rear, timber framed outshut and a rubble and brick C19 wing of 2 bays.
5 (Old Manor House), Loughborough Road - Grade II
House, a C17 timber framed range, gable to street, and a T plan addition of c1850 to S.E. C17 range framed in large panels with herringbone brick nogging on a high plinth. 2 storeys with attic. NW facade 3 x 6 panels, with arch bracing and a side wall stack. Decorative bargeboards to gable. Ornate C19 iron lattice work to windows throughout. Gable has 2 3-light mullion windows, and a single light attic window with C19 plaster hood mould. C19 range of brick with chamfered plinth and openings. Plaster hood moulds. Central section has door and 3-light casement windows, S.E. gable has 3-light windows, and a single light to attic.
K6 telephone Box , Loughborough Road - Deleted from list 6 Apr 89
The Secretary of State for the Environment has decided to delete the telephone kiosk from the List of Buildings of Special Architectural and Historic Buildings.
Church of Saint Mary, New Lane - Grade II
Parish church, rebuilt in C18 and C19. Brick with stone dressings throughout. West tower belongs to the rebuilding of 1736-9, 3 stages, with paired round headed lights to bell chamber, and oculi. The west door is a C19 gothic insertion, with shafts and decorated corbels to hood mould. The 3 bay nave was rebuilt c1877 to be in keeping with the chancel, and has heavy stone geometric traceried windows of 2 lights with foiled circles above. The chancel was built mid C19 in gothic style and has a projecting vestry to the south, and to the north a priests door with ornate shafts and hood mould. Several stained glass windows.
Cross base in Church Yard, New Lane - Grade II
Medieval cross base on 4 stone steps. Square stone base chamfered to octagon, and stump of shaft.
Manor House, New Lane - Grade II
Large farmhouse, late C18. Brick with Swithland slate roof. L plan, 2 storeys with attic. Main facade of 3 bays, central door with overlight and windows with cambered heads, casements with top lights (first floor centre window now a sash). Brick sill band and dentilled eaves cornice, gable stacks. Rear wing a 2 window range, triple light casements with cambered heads.
The Old Rectory, School Hill - Grade II
Large house, probably built 1736-9 with rebuilding of church. Painted brickwork, hipped modern tile roof, 1 rear wall and 1 east wall stack. 2 storeys, symmetrical S. facade of 3 bays, 12-light sash windows (some renewed with plate glass) with gauged brick heads, and keystones with cornice strips. Central door now a window. Small section of moulded eaves cornice survives on east wall. Early C19 hipped wing to rear, bowed to west (garden) front, with 3 full height large sash windows with keystones. Double door in west gable end with lozenge tracery and 2 sash windows above, with keystones.
Mill Farmhouse, Six Hills Road - Grade II
Farmhouse, early C19. Brick with plain tiled roof and gable stacks. 3 storeys, 3 bays, central 6-panelled door with overlight, cambered heads to ground and 1st floor windows, casements with top lights. Dentilled eaves cornice. Central attic window blank. Lower wing to rear.
15 and 17, Six Hills Road - Grade II
Farmhouse, now divided. Early C18. Brick with plain tiled roof, and rubble gable walls. 2 storeys, with basement to left and attic. 3 unit plan with off-centre doorway, inset with overlight and cambered head. Cambered heads to windows, casements with top light. Plinth, brick band and moulded eaves cornice. One gable end stack to right, and one stack between the 2 left hand units.
10 (Ivy House Farmhouse), Six Hills Road - Grade II
Farmhouse, early C19. Brick with gable stacks. 3 storeys with basement, and chamfered brick plinth. 3 bays, symmetrical facade with central 6-panel door with overlight. Cambered heads to windows, casements with top lights. Dentilled eaves cornice.
Post Box in Wall of Outbuildings 75m NNW of "Field Fares", Walton Lane (south side) - Grade II
Post box. 1859. Painted cast-iron with pedimented aperture hood. The panel below the aperture has raised VR with central crown. An example of the first standard wall box with pedimented hood and made by Smith and Hawkes of Birmingham. Blue brick surround. The mid C19 outbuilding to which it is attached is not of special architectural interest. (Information from the Letter Box Study Group).
