Consultations - Why we Consult
Consultation is part of how we gather the views of our residents, partners and other service users. It helps the Council understand what is important to local people and what they feel needs improvement.It helps to guide Council decison making and shape how services are delivered.
We will use consultation to;
- Inform our vision of what Charnwood should be like (see our Corporate Plan)
- Improve our Planning, Policy and Decision Making
- Encourage greater participation (including hard to reach groups)
- Achieve a high level of Customer Satisfaction
- Shape what we do around the needs and aspirations of our residents
The potential benefits of effective consultation are:
- Being seen as a Council that listens and responds to the views and ideas of its community.
- A better understanding of public opinion.
- Improved working with partners, businesses, stakeholders and residents.
- Better performance by providing services that the local community want.
- Increasing confidence and levels of satisfaction both internally and externally.
- Raising awareness and understanding of the Council.
- Increasing participation in local government and the democratic process.
- Meeting our legal/statutory obligations to consult staff, employers' associations and trade union.
