Area Youth Games

The Youth Games concept was started in 1999 to celebrate the Millenium and since then it has become an annual event involving thousands of school children from across Leicestershire and Rutland. Each Local Authority area through their Sports Development Officer, work in partnership with local schools and community sports clubs select teams to represent their area. The selection process works in different ways depending on where you live and is carried out through school competitions, district trials and personal nominations.

2009 EMA Area Youth Games

Charnwood Borough Council's Leisure Services in conjunction with Burleigh and South Charnwood School Sports Partnerships and Leicester-Shire and Rutland County Sports Partnership presents the 2009 EMA Area Youth Games.

The Leicester-Shire & Rutland Youth Games is a fantastic Inter-District / Inter-School Sport Partnership multi-sport competition held at Loughborough University. It aims to provide high quality competition for young people with sporting potential, identify talent and offer opportunities to volunteer at a major local sporting event.

This year the games will consist of the traditional Sunday event and a brand new Tuesday event, targeting young disabled athletes.

All participants must either live or go to school in the Borough of Charnwood. Additional eligibilities may also apply to specific sports, please contact the Officers below for further information.

Primary School Age Group


Athletics for Years 5/6
North Charnwood's trials and training sessions:
Venue: Burleigh Community College
Dates: Tuesday's 12th, 19th May, 2nd, 9th, 16th plus a final training session for the selected team on 25th June at Wreake Valley Community College.
Time: 6-7pm

South Charnwood's trials and training sessions:
Venue: Wreake Valley Community College
Dates: Thursday's 14th, 21st May, 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th June (last date for the selected team only).
Time: 6-7pm

Date: Monday 18th May 4pm - 6pm
Selected players will be invited to training sessions at the cricket club on:

Disability Sports

A brand new event, targeting young disabled athletes, will be held on Tuesday 30th June. The event is being organised with teams from each school sports partnership in the following sports –

· Badminton
· Boccia
· Football (Girls)
· New Age Kurling
· Swimming
· Table Tennis
· Zone Basketball
