Shared Services at Charnwood

Local Authorities across the Country are constantly looking for ways to improve the quality and efficiency of the services they provide. Resources are scarce and our customers expect to receive better quality services without large increases in Council Tax. Your Council needs to become more efficient in the provision of services to save money and deliver better value to council tax payers.

The Council is looking at a number of ways of reducing its costs and increasing efficiency through greater use of IT, assessment of some of our larger contracts and working more closely with its partners to reduce duplication of effort. One of the options we are proactively investigating ‘shared services’.

The idea of Shared Services is to collaborate with other organisations enabling resources to be pooled to achieve economies of scale and improvements in performance and service delivery. The services currently being looked at are finance, human resources, IT, Council Tax and Benefits.
