What is shopmobility?

SHOPMOBILITY is a scheme for people who have limited mobility. They can borrow scooters, powered wheelchairs or manual wheelchairs, to enable them to do shopping or to use other facilities in the town centre. All users must be registered members and identification in the form of a driving licence, passport or utility bill will be required when applying for membership. There are no membership fees.

How much will it cost?

It is a free service provided by CHARNWOOD BOROUGH COUNCIL. Users of the service can park free of charge in the adjacent car park in spaces that are especially designated for Shopmobility users. There is an option of either a bus service (Fridays only) or the Dial-A-Ride service (Monday to Fridays) from and to your home. Both are available to residents of CHARNWOOD who wish to use the SHOPMOBILITY scheme.

Where is shopmobility located?

SHOPMOBILITY is based in LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN HALL. It is accessed via Town Hall Passage, which runs to the side of the building. There is dedicated car parking available adjacent to the SHOPMOBILITY office.

Opening Hours

SHOPMOBILITY is open 9am to 3.45pm, Monday to Saturday (Except Bank Holidays). The telephone is available from 9.00am but has an answering machine for use when unattended. The last time for the loan of a vehicle is 3.00pm

Do you need to book in advance?

Ideally yes, that way you should not be disappointed. Bookings can be made up to 7 days in advance. The last time for booking the bus service is 12.00am on Thursday.
For the DIAL-A-RIDE service ring 01509 267147 between 9-12am

How long can a vehicle be borrowed for?

You can borrow a vehicle for up to a day, depending on how busy SHOPMOBILITY is at the time required. However, on busy days, a 3-hour limit may be applied to ensure that vehicles are available for other members.

Interested?

Then ring SHOPMOBILITY on 01509 634706 to have a chat with us and possibly arrange a visit to enrol as a member and have a look at the equipment available.
