Town Gets Recycling Bins on Streets
Date of Release: Tue 19th June, 2007
RECYCLING even whilst you’re out and about in Loughborough town centre is now possible, thanks to new litter bins.
15 new silver litter bins, which look modern and contemporary, have been installed across the town centre; four offer a separate recycling compartment and all have ash trays built in. The bins now make up a town centre bin total of 59.
Neil Greenhalgh, Head of Environment at the Council, said: “The new recycling bins are designed to take the same materials you can put in your green bags at home – plastic bottles, tins and cans. We hope that by helping people to recycle even when they’re out in town, we will contribute to our Zero Waste Strategy and that all goes to creating a cleaner, greener environment.”
The initiative is part of a Loughborough trial, which if popular, after three to six months, will be expanded across the Borough.
Neil added: “The bins also have the built in ash-trays, which is good timing considering the smoking ban, which comes into force on 1st July.”
The new bins, are in addition to the existing will be emptied throughout the day, a minimum of six times. They are positioned at the following places:
Recycling/Litter bins:
- 1x Market Place
- 1x Cattle Market
- 2x Market Street
Litterbins:
- 4x Market Place
- 2x Cattle Market
- 5x down Market Street
