Armed Forces Day took place on Saturday June 24, 2023.

Charnwood Borough Council was proud to organise a range of entertainment and attractions to recognise our Armed Forces community.

The event took place in Loughborough Market Place between the hours of 10am and 3pm, with contributors the local Army Reserve Centre staff, Royal British Legion bikers and the Land Rover Club all making a welcome return.

Loughborough's market traders and local businesses were involved, and the popular vintage vehicles were on display.

The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Margaret Smidowicz, and Councillor Louise Jones, the council’s lead member for Climate Action, Net Zero, Property and Assets with responsibilities for the Armed Forces, were in attendance.

Armed Forces Flag-raising event on Monday June 19

The Armed Forces flag-raising ceremony took place at Loughborough Town Hall on Monday June 19, 2023.

The ceremony began at 10am, with the flag-raising taking place at 10.15am.

The ceremony began with a short address by the Deputy Lieutenant David Wyrko Esq DL, who thanked those in attendance and paid tribute to all those who serve or have served in His Majesty’s Armed Forces.

The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Margaret Smidowicz, paid her respects to the Armed Forces community and those who have sacrificed their lives for their country, before a prayer from the Royal British Legion Chaplain, Rev’d. Wendy Dalrymple concluded the ceremony.

Capt. Ben Wing, representatives from 158 Regt Royal Logistic Corps, the Royal British Legion and 2229 Loughborough Squadron Royal Air Force Cadets led the salute as the Armed Forces Flag was raised.
