Answer

Charnwood Borough Council does not make any distinction between pets and all other animals found dead, except where the animal is scanned to see if it has a microchip, when the owners will be contacted.
When alerted to the presence of a dead animal, the Councils Street Cleaning contractor will collect the animal for disposal.  This service is contracted out as part of a wider Environmental Services contract, and it is the contractor who contacts any owners and either freezes or disposes of the animals and therefore we do not hold all the information you have requested.
I can provide the numbers and types of dead animals at the side of the road reported to the council in the 12 month period from November 2012 to November 2013 – 1 x Rabbit, 27 x Fox, 3 x Dog, 31 x Badger, 3 x Swan, 30 x Cat, 4 x Birds, 4 x Deer, 1 x Hedgehog, 1 x Rat and 1 x large animal (unidentified by the caller).
