Question

Under the Freedom of Information Act please can you provide the following information regarding recycling:
1) How are residents required to split their recycling waste?
2) How many separate containers do households have? And when are they collected and how often?
3) What disposal system do you use? ie where does the waste go to, landfill?
4) What fines do you levy on households which do not comply which your recycling policy?
5) How many people have been fined in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009?
6) How much has the council spent in legal fees prosecuting recycling cases in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009?
7) Please state the number of claims you have received for damage or injury caused or relating to recycling bins in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009?
8) Please state the amount of money you have paid out in claims you have received for damage or injury caused or relating to recycling bins in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009?
9) Please state the cost of legal fees in claims you have received for damage or injury caused or relating to recycling bins in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009?

Answer

1)         How are residents required to split their recycling waste? batteries are separated into supplied battery bags,  textiles are separated into separate bags and all other recycling goes into one green wheelie bin
2)         How many separate containers do households have? And when are they collected and how often?  One bin for landfill waste & one bin for mixed recycling.  Refuse is collected every two weeks, recycling is then collected on the alternate week, every two weeks.   
3)         What disposal system do you use? ie where does the waste go to, landfill?  black wheelie bin waste goes to landfill, green wheelie bin recycling goes to Viridor in Crayford where it is sorted into its different components
4)         What fines do you levy on households which do not comply which your recycling policy?  no fines are carried out
5)         How many people have been fined in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009? N/A
6)         How much has the council spent in legal fees prosecuting recycling cases in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009? N/A

There are no records of any damages or injuries relating to recycling bins
