May I request the car parking figures for February in the form they were supplied for the previous month.
Additionally, what would be the annual cost to the Council if a 'FREE AFTER 3' policy was introduced in the town? That is, no parking charges after 3pm.
Please find attached the breakdown of the car parking figures as requested.
The Council do not hold any information regarding the annual cost of introducing a blanket ‘Free after 3’ parking policy. However the Council has been asked to support a promotion in partnership with Loughborough Business Improvement District (BID) to encourage shoppers and leisure users into the Town Centre during quieter times. Specifically, the promotion requested Free parking on Fridays after 3pm, in Granby Street car park for a period of 20 weeks during the summer of 2013. The promotion is designed to encourage customers to use town centre shops, cafes and leisure facilities during thereby improving the vitality of the Town centre. While the would normally result in a loss of income for the Council, the time chosen is a quieter period and in a single council car park only. Loughborough BID will make a contribution to the Council to off-set any estimated loss of income for the scheme. Therefore, there is only a negligible cost to the Council
