am writing to you to request the following information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act.
1) In total how many planning applications were received by Charnwood Borough Council in financial year 2010-2011?
2) How many planning applications were approved in financial year 2010-2011?
3) Out of the total planning applications made for building in financial year 2010-2011 how many were on designated Greenbelt land?
4) Out of the total planning applications for building on designated Greenbelt land how many were approved in financial year 2010-2011?
5) In total how many planning applications were received for building on;
a) Low flood risk zones in financial year 2010-2011?
b) Moderate flood risk zones in financial year 2010-2011?
c) Significant flood risk zones in financial year2010-2011?
6) Out of the total planning application for building on flood zones how many were approved on;
a) Low flood risk zones in financial year 2010-2011?
b) Moderate flood risk zones in financial year2010-2011?
c) Significant flood risk zones in financial year 2010-2011?

Answer

1)      In total how many planning applications were received by Charnwood Borough Council in financial year 2010-2011?. 1218 (all applications included on statutory returns to Central Government)
2)      How many planning applications were approved in financial year 2010-2011? 1039 (all applications included on statutory returns to Central Government)

3)      Out of the total planning applications made for building in financial year 2010-2011 how many were on designated Greenbelt land? There is no designated Green Belt in Charnwood.
4)      Out of the total planning applications for building on designated Greenbelt land how many were approved in financial year 2010-2011? N/A
5)      In total how many planning applications were received for building on;

While the information requested is held by the Council in the form of individual planning applications it is not held in a manner which enables the information to be split down into the categories you have requested to be collated easily.  The time required to locate and retrieve information regarding planning applications involving building in flood risk areas would exceed the appropriate limit for dealing with requests set out in section 12 of the Act and the Appropriate Limit and Fees Regulations. 

The Council would normally wish to offer suggestions as to how some of the information could be provided or how a differently worded request could result in information being provided within the terms of the Act and the Regulations.  However due to the complexity of the information requested in this case in relation to the way in which the Council holds information this does not appear possible in this case
