A consultation about potential sites for a new cemetery in Loughborough has now closed.
More than 700 people responded to the consultation which was organised by Charnwood Borough Council and ran between August 8 and September 23.
The Council is looking at three possible locations for a new cemetery as the existing one in Leicester Road is due to be full within four years.
The three viable options which could provide future burial space are land at Allendale Road, land at Nanpantan and part of Shelthorpe Golf Course, although the Council says nine holes would be retained as part of an improved facility.
Cllr Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborough, said: “I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the consultation and given their views.
“This is an important decision for Loughborough and one that will have implications for the town for many years to come, therefore it was important residents were given the opportunity to have a say.
“Our officers will now be looking at the consultation responses and putting together a report which is due to be presented to Cabinet in October. Cabinet will not only be considering the consultation responses but other factors including the practicalities of each site and cost implications.”
The consultation involved writing to residents near the proposed site, a drop-in session at Loughborough Town Hall and promotion on social media and in the local press. Information was made available on the Council website.
While the consultation is closed, information about the viable options is still available on the council website.
