Charnwood Borough Council is participating in a fraud-busting initiative to protect public funds.

The National Fraud Initiative is carried out every two years and uses sophisticated ‘data matching’ techniques to analyse data provided by around 1200 public and private sector organisations, including government departments, to identify suspicious cases for further investigation.

Cllr Tom Barkley, Charnwood Borough Council’s lead member for finance and property, said: “We are legally obliged to share information with the Cabinet Office as part of the NFI scheme and it is something we are pleased to support.

“This scheme is about detecting and preventing fraud and we take our responsibilities around these issues very seriously at Charnwood Borough Council.”
