An outdoor gym that comes with its own phone app has officially opened at Southfields Park in Loughborough in a bid to improve the open space and help people get fit.
Charnwood Borough Council has installed the gym over the summer and residents have already been putting the equipment to good use.
The outdoor gym comprises 12 pieces of equipment split into several zones to benefit different parts of the body, offering an all-round work out. Users are able to adjust the resistance of the equipment to suit their workout needs.
There is also a street fitness frame for gymnastic-style exercises.
Visitors can download a free app called Proludic Sport for instructions on how to use the equipment and track their workouts.
Cllr Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborough said “The new outdoor gym is a great addition to the park. We asked residents what they wanted and introducing a wider range of facilities was popular among respondents.
“The gym means residents and visitors can get some fresh air and a bit of additional exercise and the app can provide some guidance and a bit of motivation. We hope people will enjoy using both.
“This is just one of the improvements being made to Southfields Park as we have also added new paths to help people better explore the park.”
The area is situated on a colourful hardwearing surface and is accompanied with a seating area.
The new outdoor gym facility cost £40,000 and was funded by a section 106 agreement which is when a developer agrees contribute funding towards improvements in the community.
