Two residents who took a chance and made a difference have won prizes in the first ever Charnwood Community Lottery draw.
The lottery was launched by Charnwood Borough Council in September.
To celebrate the launch players had the chance of winning additional prizes, an iPad and a dining experience for two at Great Central Railway worth over £100.
Cllr Deborah Taylor, Charnwood Borough Council’s lead member communities said “We were delighted to launch the lottery to help raise money for lots of good causes doing amazing work in the community.
“We offered two additional prizes for the first draw of the lottery to celebrate the launch. As well as having the chance to win extra tickets or cash prizes up to £25,000, players were entered into a draw to win an iPad or a Great Central Railway dining experience. I’d like to thank the Great Central Railway who kindly donated the dining experience voucher which is worth over £100.
“There has been a positive response to the lottery from both good causes and residents in Charnwood. We would like to thank everyone for their support with the lottery so far. “
Roger Price from Quorn was surprised to find out he had won an iPad in the first lottery draw. Mr Price supported the Quorn Local History Group, a monthly meet up, promoting interest in local history and heritage.
Mr Price said “I was shocked to find out I had won an iPad as the best I hoped for was a small win after signing up to play the Charnwood Lottery.
“Quorn History Group is a new organisation, but has already shown a very diverse programme of events. It is not just boring talks on old buildings. Quorn has many great things in its past which the community is learning about together with real enthusiasm.”
Sue Templeman, vice chair of the Quorn Local History Group said “Quorn Local History Group has only been in existence for about a year and we have many exciting plans!
“Having a regular income stream from Charnwood Lottery means that we can move our ideas along more quickly, and we are hoping to put this money towards our oral history project. It is great to be able to be able to support Charnwood Lottery, so for us it is a win, win!”
The dining experience for Great Central Railway was won by Ben Woolley. Mr Woolley supports the Falcon Support Services which work with those that are homeless or vulnerable in the community.
Mr Woolley said “I am very pleased to win the voucher and hope to use it next Summer.
“I volunteer my time to Falcon as I feel they provide an invaluable service to some of the most vulnerable people in Loughborough and the surrounding areas.”
A number of cash prizes have already been won in the first few draws including two players winning £250 each.
Charnwood Community Lottery is being run by Charnwood Borough Council, and will help raise money for good causes, charities and voluntary organisations.
