Help us find a youngster to Light up Loughborough!

  • Light-up Loughborough

The Council has once again formed a festive team with the Loughborough Echo to find a youngster who would like to switch on the town’s festive lights on November 24 in front of thousands of people.

Each year Loughborough town centre is packed as people count down to the moment the Christmas lights are turned on and the festive season well and truly begins.

Following the success of last year’s competition, the Council is once again looking for a special youngster aged 11 or under who would like the honour of flicking the big switch along with the town hall Jack and the Beanstalk panto cast.

It is a competition so you would have to tell us why you think your son or daughter should Light up Loughborough. We’ll also throw in a family ticket to Jack and the Beanstalk at the Loughborough Town Hall (worth up to £72) for the winner and their family.

Last year the lights were switched-on by brother and sister Alex and Megan Hutton. The judges were impressed with their commitment to supporting their family and chose them to light-up Loughborough.

Cllr Jenny Bokor, the Council’s lead member for Loughborough, said: “We are once again looking for a special individual who deserves to light-up Loughborough and get everyone into the festive spirit.

“Last year we received lots of fantastic entries and we thought it would be nice to run the competition again.

“There will be thousands of people in the Market Place, BBC Radio Leicester, the panto cast and a host of other fun, so it is set to be a festive treat.”

Andy Rush, editor at the Loughborough Echo said: “It's a great pleasure to be taking part once again. It was so uplifting to judge the entries last year, with so many young individuals doing so much for their family, friends and community."

To enter the competition, simply complete an entry form by visiting www.charnwood.gov.uk/lightuploughborough. All entrants must be 11 or under on November 24, 2019 and need to be entered by their parent or guardian. They must live in the borough of Charnwood. The closing date for entries is midnight on Monday, November 4, 2019.

Once we have all the entries in, representatives from the Council and the Echo will choose the winner.

The competition is not open to employees of the Council or Loughborough Echo or their relatives. All winners must agree to featuring in any media or social media coverage.
