Charnwood Borough Council has closed the Outwoods in Loughborough and the car park at Charnwood Water to support the government’s guidance on social distancing.
The closures are until further notice and in line with the approach of other open spaces and country parks across the region and nation such as Bradgate Park and National Trust properties.
Cllr Jonathan Morgan, leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: “We all have a duty to follow the government’s guidance on social distancing as this will literally help save lives.
“The Outwoods was quite busy on Saturday and that means people were in the woods, on the footpaths and at times unavoidably quite close together. We had already closed the public toilets but due to the number of people at the Outwoods and Charnwood Water it is in the best interests of everyone to shut them. Those interests include our staff and our partner’s employees.
“Please follow the government advice and stay at home if you can and as per the government advice, avoid large and small gatherings in public spaces.
“We have already closed a number of venues and services and we are reviewing everything on a daily basis. We will follow the government guidance at all times as our primary concern is the health and wellbeing of everyone."
