Charnwood Borough Council will stand by communities, businesses and organisations throughout the coronavirus pandemic, leader Jonathan Morgan has pledged.
Cllr Morgan says the Council is focussing all its resources on supporting communities during the crisis and ensuring critical services continue running.
“This is a very worrying time for everyone, but I want to assure residents, businesses and organisations in the borough that the Council will be supporting them. We will stand by you.” said Cllr Morgan. “The government has made it clear that it is going to support the nation through this difficult time and councils will do the same in their local areas.
“We are all in this together and we will need to work together to help those people who need the most support.
“The Council has launched the Charnwood Community Action campaign with John Storer Charnwood. This will help us support and co-ordinate the community voluntary effort in the coming weeks.
“Meetings and conversations have taken place to make sure that we are all well-placed to help people most in need. We have made £100,000 available to support this work.
“Working closely with the NHS and the County Council we will co-ordinate community support and we will be playing our role to the fullest.
“The Government has put a package of measures to support businesses, through rates relief and grants, and we will make sure this help gets to local companies who qualify as soon as possible over the coming weeks.
“I would like to assure residents that officers across the Council are working flat out to respond to the coronavirus pandemic and ensure essential services continue to operate.
“Finally, I’d just like to reiterate the Government’s advice: stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives.”
