Loughborough Town Hall and producers Little Wolf Entertainment have been celebrating as last year’s 5-star rated Jack and the Beanstalk took home the award for Best Dame for James Peake’s portrayal of the Helga Skelter Trott at this year’s Great British Pantomime Awards.
Hosted by pantomime royalty Christopher Biggins in an amended online format, Jack and the Beanstalk was up against the cream of British pantomime talent from across the country. In his third year of performing the Dame role at Loughborough Town Hall, James has won audiences over year on year with his excellent comic timing and delivery.
The Loughborough-based show, which broke the venues own ticket and Box Office records, received the top five-star rating from industry-leading newspaper The Stage for an unprecedented fifth year in a row.
This accolade marks the third award for the Town Hall and a fifth Little Wolf Entertainment, and builds on the critical and box office success developed over the past 7 years of collaboration. With a record four nominations in total, the 2020 awards also saw recognition in the categories of Best Show (Under 750 seats), Best Leading Male and Best Set Design.
The Great British Pantomime Awards look to celebrate all aspects of the genre, from performance and choreography to technical and costume design.
Robbie Kerr, venue manager at Loughborough Town Hall, said: “I am delighted to hear that Jack and the Beanstalk has been so successful in this year’s Great British Pantomime Awards.
"Following the pantomime’s record breaking ticket sales and impressive 5-star review in The Stage for the fifth year running, for James to have been awarded Best Dame is a testament to his considerable skill and the year-round work undertaken by Little Wolf Entertainment and Loughborough Town Hall to ensure that the residents of Charnwood and beyond receive one of highest quality pantomimes in the country.
"My congratulations go to James, Little Wolf Entertainment, and the staff at Loughborough Town Hall for this award and look forward to seeing the adventure of Aladdin on stage later this year!"
Morgan Brind and Alan Bowles, producers at Little Wolf Entertainment said: "We are delighted that The Great British Pantomime Awards have recognised something that Loughborough audiences have known for years; that Loughborough Town Hall has one of the best dames in the country!
"We are delighted that James Peake will be back to dazzle audiences in our next pantomime Aladdin, which is jam packed with action and adventure and we look forward to welcoming you back to experience the magic of live theatre and those big laughs we could all do with right now!"
