Residents delighted with £250 win on lottery

Two lucky residents have won £250 each thanks to supporting good causes and playing the Charnwood Community Lottery.

The lottery, which is run by the borough council, helps raise money for good causes, voluntary organisations and charities in Charnwood.

Peter Cantle from Barrow said he was delighted to win £250 after matching four numbers on a recent lottery draw.

Peter said: “I was very pleased to find out I’d won £250 on the lottery! Of course, by purchasing tickets you’re in it to win it but I also enjoy playing because I know it’s making a positive difference to a local cause.

“I decided to support the Barrow Community Library with my two tickets each week. I see how the funding generated from lottery tickets helps the community library not only as a resident but also as a library volunteer.”

For every £1 ticket purchased, 60p goes towards helping good causes in the borough and people can choose which good cause to support when buying their ticket.

Divya Damodaran Ranjit from Loughborough chose to support Loughborough Leggo Youth Group with her tickets and said it was a pleasant surprise to find out she had won £250 a few weeks ago.

Divya said: “It was a lovely surprise to find out I had matched four numbers and won £250 on the lottery. I’m pleased to support The Loughborough Leggo Youth Group with my tickets which delivers a range of services for young people with special needs.

“I’m always happy to help support a good cause and I feel the lottery is a great way of doing that.”

Cllr Leigh Harper-Davies, the Council’s lead member for communities, said: “Lottery players are continuing to help raise funds for a variety of causes across the borough, all of which do fantastic work for our local communities.

“I’d like to congratulate both Peter and Divya on their recent lottery wins and thank them for supporting our local good causes.

“If there are community groups or charity organisations which would like to raise some extra funds, I’d encourage them to think about signing up to for the lottery for free as a good cause.”
