Community heroes recognised during virtual celebration

Published: Wed 16th December, 2020

Individuals, community groups and businesses have been honoured in a virtual celebration for this year’s Charnwood Community Heroes.

Charnwood Borough Council celebrated the positive contributions made by people and organisations in the borough during a virtual event on Saturday December 12.

The coronavirus pandemic meant this year’s awards took place online on the Council’s Facebook page. A series of video messages and posts recognising the work of all 71 nominees were published throughout the afternoon.

Nominations included people who have helped the homeless, community groups which have helped their local neighbourhoods and businesses which delivered meals to people during lockdown.

Cllr Leigh Harper-Davies, the Council’s lead member for community support and equalities, said: “Although this year’s celebration was virtual, I hope all of the nominees know how much they’re contributions to their local communities is much appreciated.

“Charnwood Community Heroes is a great opportunity to say thank you to those who help others – no matter how big or small. Especially during a year which has been like no other.

“All those nominated don’t help others for the recognition and that’s why it’s even more important to say thank you and show them that what they do is appreciated.

“There were lots of inspiring stories shared throughout the afternoon on the Council’s social media channels and I certainly enjoyed tuning in.

“Congratulations once again to all of our heroes. You all really do make a difference, thank you!”

Each nominee will receive a certificate and a small bar of chocolate to say congratulations on their nomination and thank you for what they do in their local communities.

This year’s awards were kindly supported through the council’s collaboration with EEM, a not-for-profit procurement company

If you didn't get a chance to tune in to the virtual celebration on social media, a highlights video will soon be available to watch on the Charnwood Community Heroes webpage.
