Charnwood businesses urged to apply for newly launched business development and diversification fund

Small and medium-sized businesses in Charnwood may be able to access grants of up to £5,000 from the borough council.

Charnwood Borough Council has opened applications to its Business Development and Diversification Fund which offers the grants to businesses with less than 250 full time employees and which are looking to diversify or enable safer working practices because of the pandemic.

Cllr Tom Barkley, lead member for finance at the Council, said: “We are thankful to receive this next round of Government financial support and are looking forward to getting it out to business owners as quickly and securely as possible.

“I urge all Charnwood-based businesses to check the eligibility criteria to see if the grant is applicable to you. The application form is on the website and the process is quick and simple.

“We are working extremely hard to ensure all eligible businesses are getting the funding they are entitled to so that they can come back from the restrictions stronger than ever.”

The revenue grant can only be spent on the following type of activity:

  • 1-2-1 specialist advice to address the immediate needs of the business in response to the impact of Covid-19, e.g. HR, accountants, legal, marketing, financial, health and safety, IT / digital or sector specialists etc. and / or
  • purchase of minor equipment to adapt business processes to the impact of Covid-19 particularly in relation to health and safety/ cleanliness/ social distancing requirements, e.g. wash station, disinfectant fogging machine; hands free thermometer; and/ or
  • new technology enabling the business to continue delivering business activity or diversify in response to Covid-19, for example developing online/ e-commerce platforms, contactless payment systems, websites, software development, ‘click and collect’ services.
  • improvements and investment to busines premises.

These costs need to be new to the organisation and not ongoing revenue costs
