A new Covid-19 grant scheme for businesses in Charnwood is now open for applications.

The Local Discretionary Grant Scheme is being operated by Charnwood Borough Council following the Government’s announcement of extra funding being made available to local authorities this week.

The scheme is for small and micro-businesses in the leisure, hospitality, personal care, and travel sectors plus some suppliers to the hospitality sector. The full criteria and how to apply is now online at www.charnwood.gov.uk/cvbusiness.

The Council is waiting for further Government guidance before it can launch a second scheme - the Covid Business Support Grant – which offers a one-off grant of up to £6,000 for hospitality and leisure businesses who have had their trading impacted by the recent surge in Covid cases.

Cllr Shona Rattray, lead member for business support, said: “We have swiftly launched the discretionary to ensure funding reaches local businesses in need as soon as possible and I am delighted that applications can now be made.

“Since the start of the pandemic we have been committed to distributing Government funding for local businesses quickly and securely. We have distributed more than £55 million to local businesses under previous Covid grant schemes.”
