Residents are invited to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style with a series of events in Loughborough’s historic Queen’s Park.
Charnwood Borough Council have planned two events that will cater for the entire family.
Firstly, on Thursday June 2, the Beacon in Queen's Park in Loughborough will be one of more than 1,500 beacons lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, and one in each of the capital cities of Commonwealth countries in recognition of The Queen’s long and selfless service.
A heritage plaque to mark the Platinum Jubilee will be unveiled by the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Jenni Tillotson, at 9pm in Queen’s Park, before the official lighting of the Beacon at approximately 9.45pm.
Residents are being encouraged to attend the beacon lighting ceremony and are being encouraged to dine out at Loughborough’s many cafes, pubs and restaurants before making their way to Queen’s Park.
Some Loughborough-based businesses are providing special discounts and Jubilee-themed offers to mark the occasion, many of which can be found on Love Loughborough BID’s Loyal Free app.

The second event is The Big Lunch in Queen’s Park, which takes place on Sunday June 5 from 12pm until 4.30pm.
The event is one big family picnic, featuring fun-filled attractions including live music, entertainment and children’s activities, including big games like Jenga and Connect 4.
There’s live music from Embers Duo, a Carillon recital at 1pm and the Charnwood Symphonic Wind Orchestra will be performing in the bandstand from 3.30pm.
Creative Spaces will be providing arts and crafts and free face-painting from 12-4pm.
Residents are invited to bring their own a picnic, chair and blanket and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the beautiful Queen’s Park.

Charnwood Museum is open to the public from 1-4pm and are hosting a special exhibition from the Local History Volunteer Group, which includes a timeline highlighting the Queen’s key life events and visits to the city of Leicester, along with some fantastic arts and crafts work inspired by the Queen and the Royal family.
Councillor Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborough, said: “It is very important that we celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s ascension to the throne, and her extraordinary 70 years on the throne.
“Both the Beacon lighting ceremony and The Big Lunch are a great opportunity to meet up with family and friends and have fun, whilst also paying tribute to Her Majesty.
“I hope to see many new and familiar faces in stunning Queen’s Park at both events, and that everyone who attends has a fantastic time. Have a great Platinum Jubilee bank holiday.”
