Visitors to Loughborough helped mark Armed Forces Day on Saturday June 25.

Charnwood Borough Council organised an event in Loughborough’s Market Place which was an opportunity for residents to show their appreciation for the armed forces community.

The Council, with the involvement of traders and local businesses, put on some great entertainment for all visitors from 10am until 3pm.

In attendance were Loughborough Army Reserve Centre, Royal British Legion and the Land Rover Club, and the popular vintage vehicles made a welcome return.

The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Jennifer Tillotson, also attended and chatted with residents and representatives from across the armed forces community.

The Mayor said: “Charnwood has always had a strong relationship with the armed forces community, and Armed Forces Day is always a popular event in Loughborough and across the borough.

“It makes me proud to see residents waving their Armed Forces Day flags, admiring the vehicles and the various groups and regiments, and generally showing their support for everyone who serves or who has ever served their country.”

“Thank you to everyone who attended the event, and to all the traders and representatives from the armed forces community who helped make the day such a success.”

Charnwood Borough Council signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2013 and works in partnership with Melton and Rushcliffe borough councils to help develop and support the Armed Forces community and ensure that military personnel do not face any disadvantage as a result of their service.
