Festive cheer will soon be coming to Loughborough once again and Charnwood Borough Council is looking for a special youngster to turn on the town’s Christmas lights.

The switch-on will take place on Sunday November 20 and the Council has teamed up with Fosse 107 to run the Light Up Loughborough competition to find a deserving child to flick the switch in front of thousands of people.

The competition is open to children aged 11 or under who have done something extraordinary – whether that’s helping in the community, worked hard at school or helped to look after a relative. They must also be a Charnwood resident!

The winner will also receive a family ticket to this year’s pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, at Loughborough Town Hall and a £50 Love Loughborough voucher

Cllr Jenny Bokor, the Council’s lead member for Loughborough, said: “I am so pleased to say Light up Loughborough is back. It is such a great competition and offers a deserving young person in Charnwood the chance to make some amazing festive memories.

“I look forward to reading about the fantastic activities and hard work that youngsters have been putting in over the past year.

“I wish everyone entering the best of luck. I am excited to meet the winner and see them switch on the town’s Christmas lights.”

Fosse 107 will be hosting the stage at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on which will include entertainment and musical performances throughout the day, along with a craft fair and market stalls in the town centre.

To enter the competition, all you need to do is fill out our online survey.

All entrants must be aged 11 and under and live in Charnwood. They will need to be entered by a parent or guardian. The closing date for entries is Sunday October 30.

All entries will be considered by the judging panel which will be made up of representatives from the Council and Fosse 107.
