Charnwood joined the rest of the nation over the weekend in celebrating the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

Street parties and coronation events took place in towns and villages across the borough.

The Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Jennifer Tillotson attended a civic coronation service at All Saints with Holy Trinity Church in Loughborough on Sunday, May 7. The Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Mike Kapur OBE, also attended as did other dignitaries from across Charnwood.

Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, said: “It was fantastic to see residents celebrating the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III over the weekend.

“The civic coronation service was well attended and I would like to thank All Saints Church for organising the service and to everyone for attending

“This was a historic moment and the service perfectly captured that and it was an honour to be part of it.”

Revd. Wendy Dalrymple said: “It was a joyous occasion and we were pleased to be able to play our part, welcoming people representing a wide cross section of our community.

"It was particularly special to have a greeting from His Majesties read out at the beginning of the service by the Lord-Lieutenant and to enjoy music played at previous coronations including a newly commissioned anthem called ‘The Mountains Shall Bring Peace.’ Everyone who took part took a fantastic job.”

Elsewhere, live singers entertained visitors to Loughborough Market on Saturday, which was decorated with union flag bunting. Many shop windows in the town were decorated to mark the historic weekend.

Syston hosted a party in the park with big lunches being held in places including Queniborough, Thorpe Acre and at The Hut in Loughborough.
