Residents across Charnwood are being invited to take part in the borough council’s great tree giveaway.
The Council has 3,500 free tree saplings to give to residents to plant in their gardens as part of its commitment to plant trees and help the environment.
All residents need to do is to pick them up during National Tree Week later this month.
The Council is working alongside its open spaces partner idverde will be handing the saplings to residents, community groups and parish councils.
Cllr Louise Jones, Lead Member for Climate Action and Net Zero said: “The Council’s previous tree giveaways have been popular, and I hope this year will be no different. With a range of varieties available, residents can either choose to plant a single tree or grow a hedgerow.
“Trees bring a range of positive benefits to the environment and residents will be helping to make Charnwood even greener by planting a tree at home.”
The tree giveaways will take place on:

- Sunday November 26, 10am-2pm – Birstall Pavilion, Birstall Meadow Road, LE4 3LL
- Thursday November 30, 10am-2pm – Loughborough Market, Market Place, Loughborough, LE11 3EB

National Tree Week is run by The Tree Council and is one of the largest tree celebration events in the UK. It takes place between November 25 – December 3.
idverde manages the borough’s parks and open spaces on behalf of the Council.
