Local village hall reaping the rewards of a Charnwood Community Grant

A village hall has benefitted after receiving a Charnwood Community Grant to help upgrade its facilities.
Burton on the Wolds Village Hall was awarded £8,700 in June 2023 to upgrade the toilet facilities to make them more accessible for disabled users and child friendly.
The work has now been completed and the facilities are open for users, including a children’s playgroup which takes place at the village hall from Monday to Friday every week.
Charnwood Borough Council awards tens of thousands of pounds each year to support groups and projects.
The village hall is managed by Burton on the Wolds, Cotes & Prestwold Parish Council.
Parish councillor Emma Wardle said: “The funding we received through the community grant was vital to upgrade our facilities here at the village hall.
“Our old toilets were dated and they really needed to be improved to make them more accessible for disabled users and children.
“As a community venue, any type of funding is really important to us and I would encourage other projects and organisations to look into the grants available.”
Cllr Liz Blackshaw, the Council’s lead member for communities and neighbourhoods, said: “I am really pleased to see the improvements to the facilities and the funding has made a real difference to the village hall.
“Charnwood Community Grants offer a great opportunity to local organisations and groups to access vital funding for their projects. If you are involved in a local project then please do look into the grants which you may be able to apply for.”
Burton on the Wolds Village Hall, which was originally built in 1909, is currently used by a playgroup and also hosts coffee mornings, activities for residents and events.
