Advice on keeping warm

Advice is available for Charnwood residents on ways to keep your homes warmer and energy bills lower thanks to Leicestershire County Council Warm Homes Officers.

Warm Homes Officers can help anybody living in cold housing to keep their home warm and cut their fuel bills by:

  • Providing practical support, e.g. programming central heating
  • Checking people are on the right energy tariff
  • Checking eligibility for heating and insulation grants and for minor works, such as draught proofing and boiler servicing.

To arrange a free Warm Homes check, which could include a home visit, contact Private Sector Housing on 01509 634651.

Keeping warm

It is important to stay healthy during the cold winter months - this means keeping yourself and your home warm.  For many, rising fuel costs mean that keeping a home warm is difficult.

The ‘Keep Warm Keep Well’ booklet from HM Government is full of useful tips to keep you healthy and warm this winter. Eating the right foods, staying active and dressing correctly for all weathers is particularly important for the over 60’s, low income families and people with disabilities.

This simple guide also lists grant schemes available, including the new Energy Company Obligation (ECO) grants, and where to go for further help and advice in paying for your fuel bills.

Leicestershire County Council have produced a leaflet offering Advice on Keeping Warm and Staying Healthy (PDF Document, 0.1 Mb).
