Advice on keeping warm

Residents in Leicester and its outlying areas, including Birstall, Thurmaston and Wanlip in Charnwood, are to be asked to continue to follow stricter lockdown restrictions for at least two weeks, and non-essential shops will be closed. More information - including frequently asked questions and a postcode checker - can be found at

Advice is available for Charnwood residents on ways to keep your homes warmer and energy bills lower thanks to Leicestershire County Council Warm Homes Officers.

Warm Homes Officers can help anybody living in cold housing to keep their home warm and cut their fuel bills by:

  • Providing practical support, e.g. programming central heating
  • Checking people are on the right energy tariff
  • Checking eligibility for heating and insulation grants and for minor works, such as draught proofing and boiler servicing.

To arrange a free Warm Homes check, which could include a home visit, contact Private Sector Housing on 01509 634651.

Keeping warm

It is important to stay healthy during the cold winter months - this means keeping yourself and your home warm.  For many, rising fuel costs mean that keeping a home warm is difficult.

The Warm Homes Service offers free, impartial advice on keeping your home warm, heating it safely and keeping energy bills affordable.

Leicestershire County Council have produced a leaflet offering advice on keeping warm and staying healthy. It can be found below:
