Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions

A carbon footprint is a calculation of the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that are being emitted to the atmosphere as a result of an organisation’s activities.

These gases are referred to as carbon emissions, or Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.

National emissions reporting system

Since 2011, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has implemented a national emissions reporting system, which requires public reporting of GHG emissions.

Every year we produce a report of the changes to GHG emissions within Charnwood. Since first reporting in 2011, we have seen siginficant reductions in our carbon emissions and an uptake in efficiency. The results for 2015-2016 can be seen below;
