Our offices are now closed to the public so we would encourage you to access services and information through this website.

This section of our website has been created to inform people about changes to our services and highlight the advice and support which is available for residents and businesses.

We are also co-ordinating a community effort with John Storer Charnwood to support residents who may feel isolated at these times and need some help.

Our primary concern is the health and wellbeing of everyone living and working in Charnwood.

We have also produced this Community Information Pack for people to download (link below). It contains handy information, links and contact numbers.

Council service updates (27.03.2020)

We are currently reviewing services delivered by the Council and we will update this webpage about changes to services.

Markets and public conveniences

Loughborough Markets suspended

We have taken the decision to suspend markets in Loughborough for the time being to help support the Government Stay At Home message it is appropriate to postpone the markets until further notice.

We will bring them back as soon as we can and we look forward to seeing traders and shoppers back in the town centre in the future.

Public toilets closed

The Council has closed public toilets until further notice, including facilities at Market Place, Biggin Street and Queen's Park.

Free parking has been introduced in council-owned car parks in Loughborough. Council-owned car parks across the borough will also remain free of charge.

The Council will keep the car parks open to help support communities, critical key workers and essential businesses allowed to operate in line with recent government guidance.

This decision will be reviewed on a regular basis and amended to reflect any changes in the guidance.

Following the government’s latest advice on social distancing, the Council offices in Southfield Road, Loughborough are now closed to the public.

We apologise for any inconvenience but protecting the health and wellbeing of everyone living and working in Charnwood is our primary concern.

Meetings cancelled

The Council is cancelling non-essential meetings due to the coronavirus pandemic and based on guidance from government.

Government has indicated that we need to continue with normal business as much as possible and therefore we are still planning to hold some meetings such as Plans Committee, Cabinet and Licensing. However, we are exploring alternative ways to hold those meetings, such as virtual meetings, while ensuring the democratic process remains open and transparent. It is possible

Government may need to change legislation to allow us to do that.

In the short term, the following meetings have cancelled:

  • Appeals and Reviews, March 30
  • Parish Liaison Meeting, April 4
  • Scrutiny Commission, April 6

This position will be regularly reviewed and decisions about future meetings will be published on this website.

Sport and activities

Easter Holiday Activity Programme

The Council will not be running a holiday activity programme over the Easter holidays.
