Below is some information to help students in Loughborough who are preparing to move out of their term-time home in the town.

The Council has been working with Loughborough University, private landlords and letting agents to provide students with information about the different ways they can donate or dispose of items they may no longer need or want to take home with them.

Choose to Reuse - June 13 and 30

Students in Loughborough getting ready to leave for the summer are being encouraged to Choose to Reuse by donating items to the Air Ambulance on June 13 and June 30.

The aim of Choose to Reuse is to reduce the amount of items going to landffill by recycling items people no longer need while also contributing to a charity.

An Air Ambulance sticker will be delivered through the doors of properties in student areas in the town. If you receive one of these stickers, please attach it a bag which is filled with items you no longer need but are too good to throw away. The bag should be left for the kerbside collections on June 13 and June 30.

Charity bring sites

There are a number of Air Ambulance and British Heart Foundation bring sites located across the town which will accept reusable items. To help avoid the amount of waste going to landfill, please consider dropping reusable items off at a charity bring site.

Further information about bring sites in Charnwood can be found on the Council’s website

Bulky Waste Collections

Bulky waste items such as large electrical items or furniture can be removed by the Council for a small charge. Bulky waste collections cost £25 for three items.

For more information including a list of eligible items and to book visit our Bulky Waste Collections page

Local Recycling and Household Waste Sites (Tips)

Most large items can also be taken to one of the local recycling and household sites which are operated by Leicestershire County Council.

There are three sites in Charnwood: Loughborough, Shepshed and Mountsorrel. More details on opening times and what waste is accepted at each site can be found on the Leicestershire County Council website.

Additional bin collection

The Council’s waste management partner Serco will be carrying out an additional bin collection in student areas of Loughborough on Monday July 3, 2023.

Materials which can be recycled need to be placed loose inside the green bin and non-recyclable waste must be placed inside the black bin for collection.

Find out what can go in your green recycling bin.

Additional side waste, building waste or fixture and fittings will not be collected. Anything which is too large to fit in the bin needs to be booked in for a bulky waste collection or taken to a local tip.

A list of streets where the additional bin collection will take place can be found on our website.

Bins need to be put out by 6am on the day of collection and returned to the property by the end of the day.
