Healthcare and social care are important public services that all of us need at some time during our lives.

The National Health Service (NHS) provides treatment, services and advice to people who are ill or have had an accident and help them stay healthy.

Social care

Social care covers a wide range of services and support provided by local authorities and other organisations to help the most vulnerable people in society live as independently as possible. Many of these services are provided by Leicestershire County Council (LCC).

Information on fostering, adoption and looking after children can be found on the children and families section of the LCC website.

Charnwood Dementia Action Alliance

The Council is part of the Charnwood branch of the Dementia Action Alliance which encourages local communities to take practical action to improve the lives of people living with dementia.

There are nearly 1,500 people in Charnwood living with dementia and the Council aims to support local communities in the borough by offering practical training to staff and groups through the Alzheimer's Society's Dementia Friends programme.
