Information about rough sleepers

Our Customer Service Centre on Southfield Road is now open for essential enquiries by appointment only. Please be aware that from August 8 it is mandatory for face coverings to be worn on the premises. More information, including how to make an appointment, in this news story.

The Government has asked all housing authorities to ensure accommodation is available for anyone rough sleeping in order to minimise the risks to rough sleepers and to the public during the coronavirus pandemic.

The housing options team has worked with partner agencies to identify individuals who have been rough sleeping or are at imminent risk of rough sleeping in Charnwood.

Sometimes there can be a delay in accessing suitable accommodation or individuals can refuse the offer of help. The Council is unable to force individuals into the offered accommodation.

When accommodation has been allocated, people are expected to behave appropriately during their stay and follow the social distancing guidelines set out by the Government to help protect themselves and others.

Alongside supporting rough sleepers, the housing options team has also been providing advice and assistance to other homeless and at risk households including pre-existing homeless applicants.
