Local Council Tax Support Scheme ConsultationWe are currently consulting on proposed changes to the Local Council Tax Support scheme.

Under the current scheme, some people on low incomes will only have to pay part of their annual council tax bill. The minimum amount people have to pay at the moment is 15 per cent of their council tax bill. It is means tested so some people will pay more.

Continued cuts in government funding mean that Charnwood Borough Council will need to make savings in the future and some of these savings could be met by making changes to the Local Council Tax Support scheme.

The proposed four options are:

  1. Make no change
  2. Increase the minimum level to 20 per cent
  3. Increase the minimum level to 25 per cent
  4. Increase the minimum level to 30 per cent

The consultation is open until September 28.
