Cemetery Consultation Nanpantan V2 001The consultation has now closed.

Nanpantan Agricultural Land, off Watermead Lane (near to Nanpantan Sports Ground) is the third and final viable option for a new cemetery.

Details about the Nanpantan Agricultural Land, off Watermead Lane:

  • 14-hectare site
  • 9.1 hectares could be developed as a cemetery
  • would provide burial space for 285 years (16,500 burial spaces)
  • cost to get up and running and for one hectare: £610,000 approx including access road
  • improvements to the road through the sports ground would be required to accommodate the use of the site for a cemetery
  • development of the site as a cemetery could create a “green wedge” between existing properties and any potential future development
  • a separate depot building and toilet facilities could be developed in association with the sports ground to save costs

The site can provide burial space for up to 285 years and it is believed the technical issues can be overcome through appropriate mitigation methods. The sites is located on the edge of town and not overlooked.

A separate depot building and toilet facilities could be developed in association with the sports ground to save costs, however extensive access improvements from Nanpantan Road would require to be developed.

The total site is worth around £1.7 million as development land for residential properties.

Maintenance of the site as a cemetery would cost an extra £3,759 per developed hectare. Additional areas of the site would be developed to extend the area of cemetery in phases as space is required.
