Following the Prime Minister’s announcement regarding new national lockdown measures, Charnwood Borough Council is planning to make a number of changes to its services.
The changes are set out below.
Planned changes to services
All three leisure centres in Loughborough, Mountsorrel and Syston will be closed from Thursday, November 5. Our leisure partner Fusion will be in contact with customers directly. More information is available on Fusion's website.
Charnwood Museum will be closed from November 5.
Loughborough Town Hall is already closed.
Park and play areas
Parks and play areas, including multi use game areas will remain open.
Outdoors gyms will close. The skate park in Southfields Park will remain open.
Shelthorpe Golf Course will close on November 5.
The Thursday and Saturday market will continue to operate in Loughborough. However, stalls will be limited to those selling essential goods only until the lockdown is lifted.
The Friday market in Shepshed will continue on the same basis. The Friday vintage market has been suspended but we anticipate the farmers’ market will continue.
Toilets in Market Place and Queen's Park will be open as usual.
Biggin Street toilets in Loughborough town centre will close due to staff shortages and expected low demand.
We are reviewing our plans for Remembrance Sunday and will update residents as soon as we can.
Loughborough Fair and Christmas Lights Switch-on
We have already announced that Loughborough Fair and the Christmas Lights Switch-on, which usually take place in November, had been cancelled.
We are still planning to put the lights up and a Christmas Tree in Loughborough town centre. We are reviewing these plans alongside the new national restrictions guidance.
Guided walks organised by our Active Charnwood team have been cancelled.
