Sat 8th June, 2019, 10am to 11am

A full day experience for those who are considering bee keeping or would like to know more about the fascinating world of honey bees.
The day will begin in the classroom where you will be introduced to the background of bee keeping, types of bee and their role, hive types, equipment used, clothing etc. There will be an opportunity to practise your skills on our virtual hive as you learn about hive inspections.
Later in the day we will head out to the apiary where you will have a chance to carry out a real hive inspection, in pairs, with guidance from our beekeeping team.
We will finish up back in the classroom with a cup of tea and a chance to ask any questions you may have thought of.
This experience is a great choice for anyone who has ever thought about keeping bees but would like to learn some of the basics and background before buying their first hive. It would also suit those who just have a general interest in bees and their care.

Bee suits and gloves will be provided, however, you will need to bring wellies (recommended) or sturdy shoes and socks you can tuck the bee suit into. If you have a bee suit and gloves you are welcome to bring them with you to use during the day, but please ensure they have been thoroughly cleaned to ensure biosecurity.
