What is the Big Switch Off?

The Big Switch Off is an energy efficiency campaign being led by a partnership of all local autho rities across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and is supported by Central Networks, Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire, East Midlands Airport, Business Link, the Rural Community Council and the Chamber of Commerce.

This campaign encourage householders, businesses, schools and community groups to switch off unnecessary electrical equipment and lighting, save energy and reduce our CO2 emissions and climate change impact. Over £1 billion worth of energy is wasted by leaving appliances on standby and the Carbon Trust estimates that around 60% of energy, amounting to a staggering £180 million, is wasted by office equipment left on standby. It's time to tackle this issue to save energy, money and the environment.
