Charnwood businesses recognised at regional tourism awards

Charnwood businesses, events and locations have scooped up the top accolades at a regional awards ceremony.

The Leicestershire Tourism & Hospitality Awards recognise the successes of events and businesses across the past 12 months.

The awards ceremony was held at Athena in Leicester on Thursday November 30.

The winners from Charnwood included Loughborough Town Hall, Rothley Wine Estate, Holywell House, Rustic Kitchen & Deli, The Griffin Inn and Great Central Railway.

The Charnwood businesses, events and open spaces that were nominated at the Leicestershire Tourism and Hospitality Awards included the Outwoods, Bradgate Park, Peter le Marchant Trust and Charnwood Museum.

Charnwood Borough Council received nominations for facilities Loughborough Town Hall and Charnwood Museum, open spaces including the Outwoods and the Carillon Tower centenary event which marked 100 years of Loughborough’s war memorial in July.

Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for regeneration, economic development and town centres, said: “It is fantastic to see the successes of the borough celebrated at these awards.

“Congratulations to those who won an award and everyone who made it to the final, including our own Loughborough Town Hall and Charnwood Museum.

“The town hall have had a particularly challenging year after a fire in the town centre caused some damage to the building. I’m so pleased to see their resilience and work to get back open has been rewarded. 

“I was also pleased to see the Carillon Tower celebrations nominated. The tower is a special place for Loughborough and we were honoured to help the town celebrate its centenary year.”

Cllr Anne Gray, the Council’s lead member for leisure facilities, said: “I am so happy for Loughborough Town Hall to win in the Best Entertainment Value category.

“It has been a challenging year however we have recovered and continue to offer great value entertainment for visitors. Well done to everyone at the town hall for their hard work throughout the year.”

Martin Peters, chief executive of Leicestershire Promotions said: “The visitor economy has many reasons to celebrate together.

"The resilience, determination and relentless hard work shown by my colleagues across the industry is remarkable and I take my hat off to all the finalists and winners.”
