Flooding update - January 4, 2024

Published: Thu 4th January, 2024

We are continuing to work with other agencies to support communities in Charnwood affected by flooding.

We are aware of the standing water around Staveley Court, Meadow Lane and Meadow Avenue in Loughborough.

We are liaising with other agencies including the county council and fire service about this.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service have advised any residents who are experiencing flooding and are planning on staying in their homes to relocate key documents and valuable possessions upstairs, turn off your electricity and gas, and contact your insurance provider, who will be able to help you further. They can also assist residents wishing to evacuate their property due to the flooding should they need assistance.

We have also had our waste contractor Serco out to clear some debris and do the usual bin collections in the Meadow Lane area. We will also be arranging a special collection of waste for that area to collect waste caused as a result of flood damage.

We have also had officers in the area gathering information and signposting people to information and advice. There are multiple agencies involved and therefore people may need to contact different organisations.

As well as visiting the affected areas, we will also be calling residents and tenants in the Meadow Lane area to check if they need housing support, have issues with waste and also to signpost them to advice and support.

Our officers have visited other affected areas in the borough to help asses the situation.

Our waste contractors have been out since yesterday cleaning streets impacted by flooding and this will continue.

If people need assistance with housing because your home is flooded, please call please contact our housing needs team on 01509 634567 or 0333 200 8811 (someone is available 24-hours a day)

We have so far assisted around 16 households to find temporary accommodation. Many people who have contacted us have been able to find their own accommodation, but we appreciate people may need some longer term support. Please call the team to discuss.

If your home has been affected by flooding:

  • If you are a homeowner affected by flooding contact your insurance company
  • If you are a tenant affected by flooding contact your landlord
  • Do not touch floodwater and dispose of any foodstuffs etc touched by floodwater

We will continue to support residents along with other agencies following this significant flooding incident in Charnwood.
