A number of new energy saving lights have been installed at Loughborough Town Hall.

A total of 30 LED house lights have been fitted in the main auditorium alongside 48 LED stage lights.

The lights will see a huge reduction of carbon with the house lights approximately saving 75% of energy and the stage lights approximately saving 80% of energy compared to the previous models.

The new lights will help to reduce Loughborough Town Hall’s carbon footprint by approximately 7.5 tons per annum.

Cllr Louise Jones, the Council's lead member for climate action and net zero, said: “I am really pleased to see these new lights installed at Loughborough Town Hall and they will go a long way in helping the Council reduce its carbon output.

“We are determined to reduce carbon emissions across the whole borough, whether that is through our buildings, how we operate and by encouraging residents to look towards a greener way of living.”

Cllr Anne Gray, the Council’s lead member for leisure facilities, said: “It’s important that all of our leisure facilities reduce their carbon emissions and it is fantastic to see that these lights have been installed in the main auditorium and are expected to save a huge amount of energy.”

Charnwood Borough Council declared a climate emergency in November 2023 and committed to working with partners and communities to reduce carbon emissions and help limit global warming.

Loughborough Town Hall is a multi-award-winning professional theatre, gallery and event venue, originally built in the 1850s as a corn exchange and ballroom. It became a performance venue in the mid-1970s and welcomes over 100,000 visitors through its door each year.
