Core Features of the Grants

Type of Funding

This funding stream is for capital expenditure only – that is, for one off items of expenditure on an asset.

Who may apply?

It is available to Town and Parish Councils and Parish Meetings and properly constituted community organisations.

What does the Grant cover?

This scheme supports :

  1. The renovation, improvement and provision of community buildings ( including fitting out and provision of facilities for people with disabilities) ( but not routine maintenance) – this includes community centres, village halls and other community buildings that are a focus for their communities and which house a range of activities and services to meet those communities’ needs.
  2. Small scale environmental improvement schemes, for instance:
    • creation or improvement of public open spaces
    • creation of outdoor public art works
    • native tree and shrub planting
    • field /village pond creation or renovation
    • small woodland management
    • pollarding of trees
    • hedge planting
    • renovation of drystone walls
    • ornamental planting
    • hedge laying
    • landscaped surrounds of war memorial

     

  3. The purchase of IT equipment to assist public access to public services – for instance a computer terminal to assist public access to Charnwood Borough Council web based information and services.

What are the limits on the Funding?

For 1 and 2 above, grants will be subject to an upper limit to £30,000 and to a limit of 50% of the cost of the scheme.

For 3., grants will be limited to 50% of the cost of the scheme and to an upper limit of £3,000 in any three year period per organisation.

In all cases grant amounts are dependent on the resources available for distribution.

When can applications be made?

There are two closing dates for applications each year – 30th June and 30th November.

What is the decision making process?

Part of the assessment process for these grants will be a consultation with the relevant Area Forum. The views of Area Forums will be taken into account in the final determination of each application.

The Charnwood Grants Panel has delegated authority to decide upon applications below £20,000 and above this limit applications will be referred to the Cabinet for determination.

Other Points to Note

Applications to this fund cannot also be funded by any other Charnwood Grant. If other, more appropriate funding streams exist then applications will be referred to those streams for consideration.
