Streets & Roads

The trunk road network in Charnwood comprises the M1, A6 and A46. The Highways Agency provides day to day management of these routes. A similar service for other local roads and pathways is provided by Leicestershire County Council's Transportation, Engineering Services, Highway management and Business Management Branches. Services are delivered from County Hall and Area Offices.

The Engineering Services and Highways Management Branches, supported by the Business Management Branch, deliver front-line highways services under the name of Leicestershire Highways.

A single freephone telephone number (0800 62 62 03) has been set up for public contact and callers will be put through to people who will be able to provide information and help.

Road Safety

Charnwood Road Safety Committee (incorporating Home Safety) consists of a group made up of representatives of Charnwood Parish Councils, Borough Councillors and the police. Its remit is to investigate road safety concerns in the Borough and, if necessary, liaise with the Highway Authority to bring about improvements.

The committee meets four times a year at Southfields, Loughborough. If members of the public have particular highway safety concerns, they are welcome to write to Charnwood Borough Council, Southfields, Southfield Road, Loughborough, Leics for the attention of the Chairman of the Road Safety Committee, Councillor Roy Brown.
