Description | Bank and two shops, c1800 with C17 rear section. Red brick with brick plinth and dentilled eaves and tile roof with brick ridge and right end stacks. To rear, a timber framed section which is granite rubble stone clad and which has a Swithland slate roof. 3 storeys of three 3 light centre opening casements with top lights. Similar on 2nd floor but without top lights. Gauged brick lintels. On ground floor a C20 shop window to left and a pair of C19 shop fronts with doors to right of each under same cornice and with ornamental pilasters at the sides. On right end facing the Market Cross (q.v.) a small C20 window and on 1st floor a Venetian window with 3 light horizontal sliding sash. Over this on 2nd floor a blocked semi-circular window, some of the curving glazing bars remaining. On rear section a small 1st floor 1 light window. This section adjoins, and was originally part of Nos. 1 and 3 Watling Street (q.v.). |
