Description

Hosiery Factory, originally for Cartwright & Warner. Built 1875/6. Plain with neoclassical embellishments. Pale beige brick to main facade with terracotta string courses. Terracotta hood moulds above openings. Expressed stone cornice on corbel brackets surmounted by upstanding red brick parapet. Red brick to all other facades. Part 2 and part 3 storeys. Top light above 3rd storey perhaps to serve mending rooms (Pevsner). Pitched roofs, re-covered with concrete tiles. Generally segmental brick arched heads to openings with metal casements.
