Description | Originally a Private House, once home to the White family, hosiery manufacturers. Early C19, perhaps built 1823. Acquired by Loughborough Endowed Schools and adapted for use as a Preparatory School. Neoclassical styling but remodelled beyond recognition from original 2 storey Regency building. Generally, smooth render on stucco relieved by stone/stucco string courses, pilasters and window dressings. Part hipped and part pitched slate roofs. Deep eaves. 2 gable stacks. 2 & 3 storeys. 3 storey wing later, perhaps mid C19. A number of 2 light vertical sliding sash windows may be original. Various C19 & C20 minor alterations. Overall appearance compromised by insensitive C20 brick additions. |
